Suspected hoodlums disrupted the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests at Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Lagos State on Sunday, forcing demonstrators to flee.
According to Channels Television, the incident occurred after a disagreement between two groups of protesters.
A legal practitioner, identified only as JP, had urged the crowd to disperse, citing President Bola Tinubu’s nationwide address calling for dialogue and an end to the protests, which have been ongoing since Thursday, August 1, 2024.
However, another faction, led by 70-year-old Adegboyega Adeniji of Peace Action Transformation, insisted on continuing the protest.
Following a police address to the protesters, who had been chanting solidarity songs, a group of hoodlums appeared and began dispersing the crowd.
In a video shared by Channels TV on X.com, hoodlums can be seen running and wielding clubs. A voice in the background says, “All the police have run away. Start the car!”
Sunday, August 4, 2024, marks the fourth day of the protests, which have been marred by incidents of death, looting, and harassment by security operatives across the country.
