Foreign Nationals Urged to Leave Lebanon Amid Escalating Tensions

Foreign governments, including France, Canada, and Jordan, have urgently advised their citizens to leave the country as the situation in Lebanon grows increasingly volatile.

The warnings come amid heightened tensions following the killing of high-profile figures linked to Iran and its allies.

Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement has escalated its conflict with Israel, launching a barrage of rockets overnight.

The Israeli military reported intercepting most of the 30 rockets fired from Lebanon.

This comes as Israel anticipates possible retaliation from Tehran-aligned groups, including Hezbollah and Hamas.

In Tel Aviv, a stabbing attack on Sunday resulted in two deaths, with the assailant, a Palestinian from the West Bank, being neutralized by police.

Meanwhile, Israeli bombardments continue in the Gaza Strip, which has seen significant casualties since the conflict’s intensification on October 7, 2023.

France has urged its nationals to avoid traveling to Lebanon and to leave the country as soon as possible due to the unstable security situation. Similar warnings have been issued by the United States and Britain.

France has also advised its citizens in Iran to consider leaving, citing potential disruptions in air travel.

The killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and the assassination of Hezbollah’s military chief in Beirut have heightened fears of further conflict.

Analysts suggest a likely joint response from Iran and its allies, which could exacerbate regional instability.

In Gaza, ongoing Israeli strikes have resulted in further casualties, including a deadly attack on a school used as a displacement shelter.

The Israeli military reports continued bombardment of targets throughout Gaza.

The International Crisis Group has warned that the region faces significant risks of escalating conflict.

Analysts argue that securing a ceasefire in Gaza could help de-escalate tensions and prevent a broader conflict.
