Nigeria’s D’Tigress are set to compete against the reigning champions, the United States, in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Olympic Games.
Under the guidance of coach Rena Wakama, D’Tigress secured their spot in the final eight with a 79-70 win over Canada on Sunday. The team concluded the group stage with two victories and one loss.
D’Tigress began their campaign with a 75-62 win against Australia but fell to France, the host nation, with a 75-54 defeat. This achievement marks a historic moment as they become the first African basketball team, male or female, to reach the quarter-finals at the Olympics.
The USA, meanwhile, won all three of their group matches against Japan, Belgium, and Germany.
The quarter-final match will take place at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy Arena in Lille on Wednesday.
