The Kaduna State government has placed a 24-hour curfew in Kaduna and Zaria metropolitan areas effective immediately. This measure follows an emergency security council meeting led by Governor Uba Sani, aimed at addressing the escalating security concerns in the state.
According to Samuel Aruwan, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, the curfew was imposed due to the hijacking of ongoing protests by criminal elements who have engaged in looting and vandalism of both private and public properties.
Citizens have been advised to stay indoors while security forces work to restore order. This action comes as Plateau and Katsina states have also implemented curfews in response to violent protests.
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang announced a 24-hour curfew for the Jos-Bukuru metropolis starting from midnight on August 4, 2024. Meanwhile, in Katsina State, the Police Command has confirmed a curfew in Dutsinma Local Government Area, with a 12-hour curfew from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am across the remaining 33 LGAs.
