Uju Kennedy Interrupts Abuja Event, Arrests Organizers

The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, on Thursday disrupted an unauthorized event titled “Unveiling the Power of Women and Food Security” that was held without her ministry’s consent.

Kennedy-Ohanenye revealed in Abuja that the event’s organizer had been detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) on charges of impersonating the ministry.

She said that the ministry had not sanctioned the event and criticized the organizer for misleading the public by using the ministry’s name without permission.

Kennedy-Ohanenye further clarified that the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs had already announced the cancellation of the event, as directed by the president.

However, the organizer proceeded with the event, which led to the arrest.

The minister condemned the fraudulent actions and reaffirmed that such misrepresentation would not be tolerated, asserting that it undermines the integrity of the ministry.

“This is impersonation. As far as this thing was given out there, that makes it a fraud. So, that is why I am standing here to explain this to everyone. She has been arrested.

“She should have organised herself, used her name to make an invitation, and used her name to do this and not to use the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs.

“I can’t allow this programme to move on. I am sorry about it because this is pure impersonation, and the president is not happy about it.

“I am saying this. Let the media cover it; I don’t care. You don’t do this. You don’t take the ministry for granted.”
