Father, son die in Jigawa building collapse

The Buji Local Government Council of Jigawa has reported that a 30-year-old man and his two-year-old son have died following the collapse of a building in Madabe village.

The boy’s mother, 25, survived the incident, according to the council’s information officer, Alhaji Ali Safiyanu, who verified the information to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Monday.

According to Safiyanu, the mother who is still alive is getting better under treatment at an unnamed hospital.

He clarified that Sunday night, during a strong downpour, the building collapsed.

The state’s representative for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Badaruddeen Tijjani, also acknowledged the event but was unable to immediately release the identities of the victim and the deceased.

According to Tijjani, an investigation into the incident has since started.

Between Thursday and Sunday, flooding devastated several of the local villages, uprooting roughly 400 households and destroying roughly 1,000 farms.
