Four people have been confirmed dead following a boat accident in Dundaye community, Wamakko Local Government Area, Sokoto State.
The incident occurred on Sunday, and the Head of NEMA’s Sokoto Field Operation Office, Alhaji Aliyu Kafindangi, confirmed the fatalities to NAN on Tuesday.
Kafindangi explained that a joint rescue team from NEMA, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Nigerian Red Cross, Fire Services, and local divers recovered the bodies. The team managed to rescue 19 out of the 24 individuals involved in the accident.
“Twenty-four people were on the boat, and 19 have been rescued. One body was recovered on Sunday, and three more were found on Monday, bringing the total number of deaths to four. One person is still missing, and the search is ongoing,” he said.
