Crops Destroyed As Herdsmen Invade Osun Government Farm Settlement

Herders have reportedly invaded a government farm settlement in Osun State, specifically in the Irewole local government area, leading to the destruction of a large maize and cassava farm.

Akinade Matthew, a local farmer, revealed that the incident took place last week at the settlement in Ikoyi.

Matthew explained that the damage was extensive, with all maize and cassava crops, which were nearly ready for harvest, completely destroyed.

He expressed deep frustration, noting that effort and resources had been invested in the farm, including land clearing, tree cutting, and planting.

The farmer questioned the effectiveness of security measures in the state, particularly the presence of Amotekun operatives, suggesting that it would have taken the herders several hours to carry out such extensive damage.

He urged the Osun State Government, especially Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Commissioner of Agriculture, to intervene and provide assistance to the affected farmers in the settlement.
