Bashir Hadejia remains under investigation – Police

Bashir Hadejia, a former special adviser to the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, remains under investigation following his recent arrest.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed this on Sunday, August 18.

Hadejia, who previously served as an aide to Matawalle during his time as Governor of Zamfara State, was taken into custody on Monday.

The arrest, which has generated widespread public outcry, was based on accusations of “treason and subversion against the state,” as outlined in a search warrant issued by the Nigeria Police Force, FCT Police Command, on August 12, 2024.

The case has drawn attention, with many Nigerians demanding clarification from the authorities after photos and videos surfaced online linking Hadejia to high-profile government officials and politicians.

Images of the suspect with notable figures, including politicians and celebrities, began circulating on social media shortly after his arrest became public.

One particular photo that has gained traction shows Hadejia alongside Matawalle presenting gold bars to former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2020.

The gold bars, displayed in about 13 boxes labeled “Central Bank of Libya,” were reportedly handed over to Buhari during a visit by Matawalle to the State House in Abuja.

In another image, Hadejia was seen shaking hands with the current President, Bola Tinubu.

When asked about the ongoing investigation, ACP Adejobi confirmed that Hadejia is still undergoing intense interrogation but declined to provide further details, stating that more information will be revealed as the investigation progresses.
