Republicans Push Biden Impeachment Amid Democratic National Convention

Congressional Republicans have launched a formal impeachment case against a U.S. official, setting the stage for a significant political battle.

President Joe Biden, coinciding with the opening day of the Democratic National Convention.

The report, spearheaded by three influential committees within the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, accuses Biden of corruption tied to his son Hunter’s foreign business dealings.

Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan asserted that the investigation “conclusively” demonstrated Biden’s alleged abuse of public office for the financial benefit of his family and business associates.

However, the report lacks direct evidence linking Biden to any misuse of his office for Hunter’s business ventures.

The document largely hinges on inferences and suggestions about the relationship between Biden and his son, with many of the accusations stemming from the period after Biden’s tenure as Vice President under Barack Obama.

Biden has consistently denied any involvement in his son’s business activities, including those in Ukraine and China.

For years, Republicans have highlighted Hunter Biden’s foreign connections and troubled personal life in attempts to undermine the President.

The effort to build an impeachment case against Biden, seen by some as retaliation for former President Donald Trump’s two impeachments, has yet to gain substantial momentum.

With only a slim majority in the House, it remains uncertain whether the report will lead to a formal impeachment vote, as near-unanimous Republican support would be required to overcome Democratic opposition.

Even if the House did impeach Biden, the Democratic-controlled Senate is expected to acquit him.
