Gunmen launched a deadly attack on the residence of Salisu Ango, Governor Umar Dikko Radda’s liaison officer, in Gyaza village, Kankia Local Government Area, Katsina State, leaving a trail of bloodshed and destruction.

The bandits stormed Ango’s home on Friday, August 16, 2024, killing him and his first wife, and abducting his second wife in a brutal display of violence.

In a separate incident, bandits raided Tashar Gamji community in Kankia Local Government Area, stealing domestic animals, food items, and valuables, leaving residents in a state of fear.

In Shirgi community, Batsari Local Government Area, the gunmen killed one person, injured another, and abducted 28 others, rustling several domestic animals in the process.

The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed both attacks, acknowledging the incident in Kankia and promising to release an official statement on the Shirgi attack after receiving a report from the Divisional Police Officer in Batsari.

The recent killing of the governor’s aide highlights the growing threat of banditry in Katsina, with Kankia becoming increasingly vulnerable to attacks due to its shared borders with notorious hotspots.
