FG Aims for Economic Growth via Science, Technology, and Innovation, Says Minister

The Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology has reaffirmed its commitment to propelling Nigeria’s economic development through a strategic focus on Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI).

This pledge was underscored by Chief Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, during a sectoral retreat in Abuja on Tuesday.

The retreat centered on implementing the Presidential Priorities, Ministerial Deliverables, and the Performance Management System (PMS).

Chief Nnaji highlighted the pivotal role of STI in achieving the Eight Presidential Priorities set forth by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The advancement of Science, Technology, and Innovation is crucial to realizing our national aspirations,” Nnaji stated, calling for a unified approach to tackle challenges, devise actionable plans, and achieve measurable outcomes.

He emphasized the need for collaboration within the STI ecosystem to unlock growth opportunities, generate employment, and enhance the quality of life for Nigerians.

Nnaji also stressed the importance of a robust Performance Management System to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective feedback, which he believes will translate efforts into tangible benefits for the populace.

Permanent Secretary Esubana Nko Asanye noted that the retreat’s goal was to refine strategies, enhance the PMS, and drive national development.

Dr. Adamu Tutuwa Jummai, Director General of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO), called for a shift from a consumption-based to a production-driven economy, asserting that sustainable development requires reducing reliance on imported goods.

Jummai expressed FIIRO’s commitment to supporting the Ministry’s objectives and aligning with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to address Nigeria’s technological challenges effectively.

The retreat sought to address complex issues, improve service delivery, and enhance administrative efficiency, aligning STI stakeholders’ efforts with the Presidential Priorities, which include economic growth, social inclusion, infrastructural development, security, and good governance.
