Enugu Varsity Sacks 6 Staff Over Sexual Harassment

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has taken decisive action by terminating the employment of six staff members due to serious allegations including certificate forgery, sexual harassment, academic fraud, and other related misconduct.

This decision was disclosed by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, during a press briefing held in Agbani, Enugu State.

The dismissals were the outcome of deliberations during the 179th meeting of the University’s Governing Council, presided over by Pro-Chancellor Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa.

The offenses involved extortion, manipulation of academic results, holding multiple full-time positions concurrently, producing fraudulent transcripts, and the mismanagement of university funds totaling over N98 million.

Concerned about the increasing instances of fraudulent behavior among staff, the Governing Council has instructed the university administration to enforce stringent measures to address these issues.

The council is particularly focused on tackling examination malpractice and has directed the management to impose appropriate penalties on involved students and their accomplices.

Professor Okolie also commended the support provided by the state Governor, Barr. Peter Mbah, particularly in equipping the university, which played a significant role in the accreditation of the Nursing Sciences and Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science programs.

Additionally, he acknowledged the Governor’s efforts in preparing the institution for the upcoming resource verification of new programs in Public Health, Radiography, and Human Nutrition and Dietetics.

The Vice-Chancellor reiterated the University Council’s commitment to enhancing the institution’s educational standards and integrity, in line with the Governor’s vision for the university’s future.
