Days After Begging For Help, Bandits Kill Sokoto Emir

Alhaji Isa Bawa, the Sarkin Gobir of Sokoto State, has been tragically killed by bandits following his abduction and torture.

According to BBC Hausa, the Emir and his son were abducted by terrorists in July while traveling from Sokoto to Sabon Birni.

A video released by the bandits showed the Emir in distress, stained with blood pleading for help while visibly injured.

The bandits had set a deadline for either his release or execution, which passed last Wednesday.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar conveyed his deep condolences to the family of the deceased and the Sokoto State government.

Atiku described the killing as a “tragic” event and condemned the violence perpetrated by the bandits.

He revealed that this violent act shows the urgent need for improved security measures to protect citizens from such attacks.

Atiku criticized the government for its inadequate response, stressing the necessity for effective security strategies to prevent further violence.

    He tweeted:

“The heinous act of violence perpetrated by bandits resulting in the untimely demise of such a revered leader is a stark reminder of the pressing need for enhanced security measures in safeguarding the lives and property of citizens.

“The failure of government to show concern or devise effective security strategies has undoubtedly contributed to the escalation of such distressing events in recent times.

“It is important to reiterate that government must provide security that will ensure the protection of lives, such that individuals do not have to live in fear of falling victims to senseless acts of violence.”
