The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced an increase in the fees for obtaining a Nigerian passport.
Kenneth Udo, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the new fees will take effect from September 1, 2024.
He explained that the adjustment is part of efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian passport.
According to the revised fees, the cost for a 32-page passport booklet with a five-year validity will rise from N35,000 to N50,000.
Similarly, the fee for a 64-page passport booklet with a 10-year validity will increase from N70,000 to N100,000, effective September 1. However, Udo mentioned that passport fees for Nigerians in the Diaspora will remain unchanged.
The NIS expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to applicants by the fee hike but reassured citizens of its continued commitment to transparency and high-quality service delivery.
