Simon Ekpa Claims Nigeria Plans to Cut Diplomatic Ties with Finland

Simon Ekpa, leader of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, has alleged that the Nigerian government intends to sever diplomatic relations with Finland.

Ekpa made this claim in a statement posted on his official X account on Thursday. His statement follows recent comments by the Finnish government regarding legal proceedings involving him.

Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Elina Valtonen, addressed the issue after a meeting with Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and officials from Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, and Finland.

Valtonen emphasized that Ekpa’s case is being handled by Finland’s judiciary, which adheres strictly to the rule of law.

Nigeria has been working on efforts to extradite Ekpa, who is currently based in Finland. In response to these developments, Ekpa claimed that the Nigerian government, having exhausted its options, is now considering closing the Finnish embassy in Abuja and cutting diplomatic ties with Finland.

He further stated, “Finland will have a better future with the emerging state of Biafra than with anything Nigeria can offer. Norway closed its embassy in Nigeria long ago, relocating it to Ghana. They lose nothing but are relieved of dealing with fake and forged documents.”

Ekpa also recently alleged that there has been a fifth attempt to assassinate him in Finland.
