    Supreme Court Upholds Uzodinma’s Election

The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the re-election of Hope Uzodimma as the Governor of Imo State, confirming his victory in the November 11, 2023, gubernatorial election.

The decision came after a five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice Mohammed Idris, dismissed appeals filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Samuel Anyanwu, as well as the Labour Party (LP) and its candidate, Athan Achonu.

Both appeals were found to be without merit.

The appellants had contested the results of the election on the grounds of alleged non-compliance with the Electoral Act and questioned the authenticity of Uzodimma’s West African Examination Certificate (WAEC).

However, the Supreme Court ruled that the appellants failed to substantiate their claims.

The judgment aligns with earlier rulings by the Imo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal, which had also dismissed the appeals due to a lack of evidence.

This ruling effectively concludes the legal challenges against Uzodimma’s re-election, solidifying his position as the duly elected governor of Imo State.
