Flood kills 6, displaces 2,000 in Adamawa communities

A severe flood has struck multiple communities in the Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, causing significant damage and widespread losses.

Six people are said to have died in the disaster, which has also caused over 2,000 people to be displaced and numerous homes, farms, and bridges to be destroyed.

Kichinga, the home town of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, as well as Mildu, Maradi, Mayo Wandu, Shuware, Pambla 2, and Palam are among the worst-hit communities.

Hon. Simon Musa, the Executive Chairman of Madagali LGC, confirmed the incident in a news interview, stating that some of the affected communities had never seen a disaster of that magnitude before.

He said that ten makeshift camps had already been set up to house thousands of displaced people.

Musa claims that the flooding was brought on by a strong downpour on the Mandara mountain, which eroded and damaged homes, farms, food supplies, and the Shuwa Bridge.

He made a plea for the affected communities to receive immediate aid from the federal, state, and nonprofit governments.

Shuwa village chief Mustafa Mohammed Sanusi called the incident “unfortunate and pathetic,” appealing with the authorities to step in and help the impacted communities.
