The Transmission Company of Nigeria, Kano Sub-Region, has opened its doors to female students to demystify engineering and encourage more girls into technical careers.

Science students of Government Girls Secondary School, Dukawuya, Kano, visited the Kumbotso 330/132kV Transmission Substation on 4th August, 2026, for a practical learning session on electricity transmission.

During the tour, TCN engineers guided the students through the process of transmitting electricity from generation to distribution, the functions of key substation equipment, control room operations, and safety protocols observed on the network.

The interactive session provided the girls with the opportunity to ask questions and gain first-hand insights into power system operations beyond classroom theory.`

Speaking on the initiative, TCN said the excursion is part of its commitment to promoting girl-child education in STEM and building the next generation of female engineers and technical professionals for Nigeria’s power sector.

The school authorities commended TCN for the exposure, noting that it has deepened the students’ understanding of science and technology and inspired them to consider careers in engineering.`

TCN reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with schools to create learning platforms that give young Nigerians, especially girls, practical exposure to the operations of the power industry.`
