Court Authorizes 60-Day Detention of 124 #EndBadGovernance Protesters

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted the police permission to detain 124 individuals who were involved in the #EndBadGovernance protests.

This decision allows the police to hold these individuals for 60 days while investigations continue.

The ruling, issued by Justice Emeka Nwite, covers both adults and minors, with the latter being placed in a Borstal Home.

The suspects, aged between 14 and 34, are accused of participating in acts of terrorism, treason, and other serious crimes, including arson.

The charges are based on various laws, such as the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act of 2022 and the Criminal Code Act.

The police, supported by intelligence reports, believe the protests were part of a larger, coordinated effort to destabilize Nigeria, involving both domestic and international actors.

Some of the suspects were allegedly caught with Russian flags and other materials suggesting a connection to foreign elements aiming to overthrow the Nigerian government.

Investigations are ongoing, with efforts to track down the remaining suspects and their financiers.

The court has set October 23 for further proceedings in this case.
