    Police Thwart Bandit Attacks in Katsina, Rescue Five Kidnap Victims

    The Katsina State Police Command successfully thwarted two bandit attacks, rescuing five kidnapped victims and neutralizing two kidnappers during the operations.

    In a press statement provided to Channels Television on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, shared the details of the incidents.

    Sadiq explained that on Sunday, the command received a distress call reporting a bandit attack on Layin Minister Village in Malumfashi LGA, during which five individuals were abducted.

    “On August 25, 2024, at about 1000 hrs, a distress call was received at the Malumfashi Divisional Police Headquarters about a bandit attack on Layin Minister Village, Malumfashi LGA, kidnapping five (5) people,” Sadiq stated.

    He added, “Upon receipt of the report, operatives were quickly mobilized and dispatched to the scene. On noticing the presence of the police, the hoodlums opened fire on the operatives which they responded gallantly.”

    All the kidnapped victims were rescued unhurt, as the attackers, overwhelmed by the operatives’ firepower, fled with various degrees of bullet injuries.

    Sadiq further recounted another incident, saying, “Additionally, on the same date, at about 1740 hrs, a distress call was received at Malumfashi Divisional Police Headquarters that some suspected armed bandits riding on twelve (12) motorcycles, wielding dangerous weapons, shooting sporadically, taking advantage of the heavy downpour, attacked Marabar Kankara village, Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State.

    “On receipt of the information, DPO Malumfashi swiftly mobilized operatives and responded to the scene.

    “The team gallantly engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel and successfully foiled the attack. In the course of scanning the scene, the bodies of two (2) neutralized suspected armed bandits were recovered from the scene.

    “Efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects as the investigation proceeds.”

    The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, praised the operatives for their bravery and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining security across the state.
