The Nigerian government is considering the introduction of a training program similar to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for graduates of the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE).
This announcement was made by the Minister of State for Youth Development, Mr. Olawande Wisdom, during the opening of the BEMORE OYO 2024 Summer Bootcamp in Ibadan on Monday.
Wisdom explained that the Ministry of Youth Development is collaborating with the Ministry of Education to implement new training initiatives, including a program comparable to the NYSC for NCE graduates and others.
He noted that while social issues have persisted for a long time, the involvement of organizations like the Boys’ Brigade and Girl Guides has played a significant role in steering many youths away from these vices.
“The ministry’s main focus is on citizenship and training, and we are reintroducing these programs. We have the NYSC for university graduates, but what about those who have completed NCE and other qualifications?” Wisdom remarked.
He further explained that the planned training would allow participants to complete it within their own states without the need for relocation. “We are undergoing many reforms, aiming to bring renewed hope to both girls and boys,” he added.
