    Kwara Customs Generates ₦3.371 Billion and Seizes 1,153 Parcels of Cannabis Sativa

    The Kwara State Customs Command reported generating ₦3.371 billion between June and July 2024 and seizing 1,153 parcels of cannabis sativa.

    At a press conference in Ilorin on Wednesday, Customs Area Commander Faith Matthew Ojeifo revealed that the narcotics were found hidden in fabricated compartments of a DAF truck with registration number T-25750-LA.

    The truck was intercepted on July 3, 2024, at around 5 p.m. along the Yamboa Axis of Bukuro in Baruten Local Government Area.

    Ojeifo explained that the driver fled into the bush upon realizing the officers had discovered the hidden cargo.

    The seized drugs, with a duty-paid value of ₦57.668 million, were handed over to the state commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Fatomoh Popoola Abiola.

    Additionally, the DAF truck, valued at ₦21.5 million, will be forfeited to the Federal Government under Section 250 of the Customs Service Act 2023, which mandates forfeiture for vehicles adapted for concealing goods.

    The Customs Command also seized 110 kegs containing 2,750 liters of petrol, worth ₦550,000.

    Overall, the total duty-paid value of items seized during this period amounted to ₦42,702,650.
