    Seven Missing, Dozens of Homes Destroyed in Niger State Flood

    In the early hours of Friday, a flood hit two local government areas in Niger State, leaving seven people missing and causing widespread destruction.

    The flood, triggered by intense rainfall, impacted the Sabon Pegi area in Mashegu Local Government and Nassarawa in Magama Local Government.

    The deluge, which persisted from 2 a.m. until noon, resulted in the destruction of over 89 houses, the loss of three vehicles, and the devastation of hundreds of hectares of farmland.

    The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) confirmed the incident, revealing that search and rescue efforts are ongoing to locate the missing persons.

    The agency, in collaboration with local communities and volunteers, continues to work tirelessly to manage the aftermath of the disaster.

    “As of the time of filing this report, seven people have been declared missing, over 89 houses were affected, hundreds of hectares of farmlands, and three vehicles were washed away.

    “Communities affected are the environs of Sabon Pegi in Mashegu LG and Nassarawa of Magama LG.

    “Meanwhile, search and rescue operations are still ongoing by NSEMA staff and its volunteers, including local riverine communities,” the statement read.
