Customs Debunks Fake Tenure Extension of CG Bashir Adeniyi

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has dismissed reports circulating about an alleged tenure extension for Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.

The agency clarified that no such directive has been issued by the Presidency.
In a statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, the NCS described the claim as “inaccurate and misleading.”

It emphasized that appointments and tenure extensions for the position of Comptroller-General are at the discretion of the President, in accordance with the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 and other relevant public service regulations.

“As of this moment, no such directive has been communicated to the NCS by the appropriate authorities,” the statement read.

The Customs Service reaffirmed its commitment to trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security, stressing that CG Adeniyi remains focused on implementing key reforms to modernize operations and enhance economic growth.

The NCS urged the public to rely only on official channels for updates regarding leadership appointments, adding that any official decisions would be formally communicated through the appropriate government authorities.

The agency also expressed appreciation for stakeholders’ support and reiterated its dedication to transparency, professionalism, and national service.
