“Gateway Games 2024 Will Be Memorable – NSC DG”
The Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mr. Bukola Olopade, has reaffirmed the readiness of the Commission and the Ogun State Government to host a memorable 22nd National Sports Festival, aptly tagged “Gateway Games 2024”.
En route to Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, ahead of the Games slated for May 16-20, the Director-General assured journalists that all arrangements have been finalized to guarantee the welfare of athletes and officials so as to ensure a smooth and hitch-free event.
“I have been involved in NSF for many years, in all my experience, what I’m experiencing shows Ogun State will be hosting an amazing festival from the very start because it starts from the welfare that is given to the athletes. I am so excited, I believe this will be the best festival, ever organized”, he said
Mr. Olopade explained that the athletes will be housed in a beautiful facility, with provision of good food, noting that all the beds are laid out and the air-conditioning system will be activated well ahead of the first contingent’s arrival on May 16th.
The D-G aasured that for the first time, athletes will have hassle-free access to their boarding facilities, adding, “when you look at facilities at the Alake Sports Centre, Remo Stars Sports Complex, MKO Abiola Sports Complex and the Babcock University, you will know without a doubt that Ogun State has finally become the hub of sports it has always been referred to be”
According to him, as the hub of sports in Nigeria, “immediately after the Festivals, Falcons are playing there in June, in July, i’m going to be heading an LOC to organize the CA Afican under 20 and 18 Championships where more than 1,900 top athletes are coming from 54 countries.
The D.G commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for creating an enabling environment for the development of sports in the country
