34 homes destroyed, families displaced in Jigawa flood

A heavy flood in Jangari community, Garki Local Government Area of Jigawa State, late Sunday night has resulted in the destruction of at least 34 homes with many families displaced.

Local councillor, Malam Dayyanu Magaji Jangar, confirmed the damage during a visit by Garki local government chairman, Alhaji Adamu Hudu Kore and a team of government officials to sympathize with the victims.

He said the flood, which left dozens of families trying to put their lives back together, followed hours of intense rainfall that overwhelmed the area.

While no lives were lost, many residents have been forced out of their homes, with personal belongings and household items either soaked, damaged or completely washed away.

Speaking during the visit, the chairman of Garki local government, Alhaji Hudu Adamu Kore, said they had come to the community to show solidarity with the people

He stated that efforts are already underway to provide temporary relief for those affected, urging  the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency and other humanitarian agencies to urgently step in to cushion the effect of the incident on the victims.
