20 Women Abducted by Bandits in Fresh Zamfara Attack

20 women, mostly young girls, have been abducted by suspected bandits in a fresh attack on Moriki town in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to local sources, the victims were kidnapped on Saturday while gathering firewood on the outskirts of the town. A resident, Sufyanu Moriki, confirmed the incident to Channels Television, saying the armed men ambushed the group during their routine search for firewood and took them away.

“The abduction actually happened on Saturday. They went out to fetch firewood at the outskirts of the town when they were kidnapped by the armed group. They are yet to contact anyone to demand ransom,” he said.

As of the time of reporting, the Zamfara State Police Command has not released an official statement regarding the incident.

This latest attack adds to the growing insecurity in Zamfara, a state that has suffered repeated assaults by armed groups in recent years. Just last month, 33 kidnapping victims were reportedly killed by bandits despite the payment of $33,700 ransom. Three infants were also confirmed dead while in captivity.
