Bandits Kill 5 Worshippers, Abduct Scores in Zamfara Mosque Attack
Tragedy struck in the early hours of Friday when armed bandits launched a deadly attack on a mosque in Yandoto community, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing five worshippers during dawn prayers.
Eyewitnesses told this reporter that the gunmen invaded the mosque around 5:00 a.m. while the faithful were observing the Subh (dawn) prayer. Without warning, the attackers opened fire on the congregation, instantly killing five people on the spot.
The assailants, according to sources, also abducted an unspecified number of worshippers and whisked them away into the nearby forest, leaving the community in a state of fear and confusion.
Later in the day, heartbroken residents and relatives gathered to perform funeral prayers for the slain victims, described as devout Muslims who were regular attendees of the mosque.
The brutal assault has sparked widespread outrage and sorrow across Yandoto, with community leaders and residents urging security agencies to step up operations in Tsafe and other parts of Zamfara plagued by incessant attacks.
“We pray Allah to forgive their shortcomings, accept them as martyrs, and bring an end to this bloodshed in our land,” a community elder said during the funeral.
