Gunmen Abduct 17 Boat Passenger in Calabar
Gunmen suspected to be sea robbers on Thursday hijacked a commercial passenger boat along the Calabar–Oron waterways, abducting 17 passengers.
The incident occurred at about 9:20 a.m. near Buoy 34, when the fibre boat, operated by Sea Express Jetty, was intercepted while conveying 30 passengers from Calabar, Cross River State, to Oron in Akwa Ibom.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the attackers whisked away 17 passengers to an unknown destination, while 13 others were rescued.
Patrol gunboats, in collaboration with other security agencies, were immediately deployed to the area to track down the assailants and rescue the victims.
Police authorities said investigations had commenced and assured that further updates would be provided as the operation progressed.
