Police Arrest Woman, Nurse Over Alleged Sale of Newborn in Delta
The Delta State Police Command has arrested a woman, a nurse, and three others in connection with the alleged sale of a newborn baby in Ika North East Local Government Area.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident was reported to Owa-Oyibu Division on September 25 by human rights activist Osim Daniel, following a petition from Morka Celestine of Raphael Obiake Street, Boji-Boji Owa. Celestine alleged that his neighbour, Joy Osoya, sold her baby shortly after delivery.
Police operatives promptly arrested Osoya, who reportedly confessed during interrogation. She led detectives to the residence of Angela Emi, the nurse who delivered the baby on September 22 and allegedly facilitated its sale for N1.5 million. Osoya admitted that Emi received N1 million from the proceeds.
Three additional suspects were also taken into custody, and N555,000 was recovered from Osoya as part of the investigation. Efforts are ongoing to locate and recover the baby.
Authorities said the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Asaba for further investigations.
