    Oyedele Assumes Office as Finance, Economy Minister, Pledges to Sustain Reform Momentum

    Mr. Taiwo Oyedele has formally assumed office as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, following a handover by the outgoing Minister, Mr. Wale Edun, on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

    The handover was concluded within the stipulated timeline directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

    Mr. Edun’s tenure was marked by key fiscal and economic reforms aimed at stabilising the macroeconomic environment and repositioning the economy for sustainable growth. These included efforts to strengthen revenue performance, improve fiscal coordination, and support broader structural reforms under the administration’s economic agenda.

    In his remarks, Mr. Oyedele commended the outgoing Minister for his service and contributions to ongoing reform efforts. He thanked President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him and wished Mr. Edun success in his future endeavours.

    Welcoming the new Minister, the Permanent Secretary, Finance, Mr. Raymond Omachi, and the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Mr. Mohammed Danjuma, pledged the full support and loyalty of the Ministry’s management and staff in advancing the inister’s mandate.

    Mr. Oyedele reaffirmed his readiness to work closely with the Ministry’s leadership and staff to deliver concrete outcomes aligned with the government’s economic priorities. He emphasised the need to build on existing reforms while focusing on measurable impact across key sectors of the economy.

    In a statement signed by the Head, Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Efe Ovuakporie, the Ministry noted that the assumption of office signals continuity in service delivery, with a focus on deepening economic reforms, fiscal discipline, and improved outcomes for Nigerians.
