Two Killed in Kogi Terror Attack as Troops Arrest 2 Suspected Criminals in Plateau

Security forces have intensified efforts to combat criminal activities across parts of the country following a deadly attack on commuters in Kogi State and the arrest of two suspected criminals during a military operation in Plateau State.

In Kogi State, two persons were killed after suspected terrorists attacked commuters travelling on motorcycles along the Okoloke–Egbe Road in Yagba West Local Government Area.

Security sources said the incident occurred at about 9:25 a.m. on June 23 as the victims were on their way to the Egbe Market. The attackers reportedly ambushed the commuters, killing two people, while several others managed to escape.

Troops of the 12 Brigade deployed at Okoloke and Okunran responded swiftly after receiving reports of the attack. The soldiers evacuated the bodies of the deceased and intensified patrols across the area to forestall further attacks and restrict the movement of the perpetrators.

Security agencies are continuing efforts to track down those responsible for the assault.

Meanwhile, in Plateau State, troops of Sector 4, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), arrested two suspected criminals during a cordon-and-search operation in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

The operation, conducted at about 2:35 a.m. on June 24, followed credible intelligence reports on criminal activities within the Great Commission RUGA general area.

According to security sources, troops raided a suspected criminal hideout during the operation, leading to the arrest of the two suspects.

The suspects are currently in military custody undergoing preliminary investigation before being handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action.

The incidents underscore ongoing security challenges in parts of the country, even as military and security agencies sustain operations aimed at protecting communities and dismantling criminal networks.
