TCN Declares Force Majeure on 132kV Birnin Kebbi – Niamey Line After Tower Collapse
The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has declared Force Majeure on the 132kV Birnin Kebbi – Niamey transmission line following the collapse of three towers.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, 26 August 2026 at 5:38pm when the line tripped. A trial reclosure was carried out at 6:03pm but the line tripped again immediately.
Following the trip, TCN linesmen conducted a fault-finding patrol and discovered that towers T109, T110 and T111 had collapsed at Chibike village in Kebbi State. TCN said the collapse was caused by heavy rain and windstorm in the area.
The development has affected bulk power transmission to Niamey, Republic of Niger through the line.
TCN said it has mobilized personnel and resources to the site and will work to rehabilitate the collapsed towers and restore the line to service as quickly as possible.
“We regret the inconvenience this may cause to our customers in Niamey and assure that every effort is being made to restore normal supply promptly,” TCN stated.
