IGP Directs Police to Take Strong Action Against Disorderly Conduct During August 1 Protest

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has instructed officers to take firm action against arsonists and troublemakers during the EndBadGovernance protest starting today, August 1.

Egbetokun emphasized that anyone involved in criminal activities during the nationwide protest will face arrest.

He issued this directive in a statement signed by him on the previous day.

The IGP also criticized the protest organizers for not providing the police with essential details about the protests, such as participant names and rally routes.

He expressed concerns that the protests might lead to chaos.

Egbetokun stated, “The name ‘Take It Back Movement’ has implications that are undemocratic and unconstitutional.”

He directed all police personnel to act decisively against any incidents of arson, intimidation, harassment, threats to lives and property, breaches of peace, or other criminal activities linked to the protest. Those involved in criminal acts will be arrested and prosecuted.
