The Lagos State Government has firmly rejected a provocative social media post by LagosPedia on X (formerly Twitter), which urged the Igbo community to leave Lagos and the Southwest of Nigeria.
This post also promoted a protest under the hashtag #Igbomustgo, scheduled for August 20-30, 2024.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, criticized the post for its dangerous and divisive rhetoric.
He emphasized that such messages aim to create discord between the Yoruba and other ethnic groups residing in Lagos, which has always been a welcoming home for all Nigerians.
Sanwo-Olu reassured all residents that Lagos remains inclusive and called for unity among its diverse population.
He urged the public to disregard the inflammatory post and called on security agencies to investigate and prosecute those responsible for spreading such messages.
The governor says he is committed to enhancing efforts to maintain peace and harmony in the state, ensuring that Lagos continues to be a haven for all citizens regardless of their ethnic background.
