The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has pledged thorough efforts to ensure the perpetrators of the recent killings of Umucheke community heads are apprehended and brought to justice.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, it was disclosed that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilantes, are actively searching the forests around Onuimo for the suspects.
During a visit to the Umucheke community on Sunday morning, Danjuma, along with key officials including the Sole Administrator of Onuimo LGA, Dr. Emeka Obi, and representatives from the 34 Artillery Brigade and NSCDC, assessed the situation firsthand.
He condemned the killings as barbaric and senseless, offering condolences to the bereaved families and the community.
Danjuma assured that the police will remain in the area to prevent further attacks until peace is restored.
Initial investigations suggest that the attack was carried out by six armed men, suspected to be members of the proscribed IPOB/ESN, who arrived on three motorcycles.
It was noted that the community residents had seen the attackers but did not report them to authorities until after the incident.
Danjuma emphasized the need for community cooperation in combating crime and urged residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
