Senator Shehu Sani has claimed that the display of Russian flags by protesters in Kano, Zamfara, and other northern states is part of a conspiracy to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Recent reports have highlighted concerns about protesters waving foreign flags, including the Russian flag, during demonstrations demanding military rule in Nigeria.
Security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services, have made several arrests related to the incident.
In an interview on Channels Television, Sani suggested that the distribution of money and Russian flags to youths ahead of the protests indicates a deeper agenda beyond dissatisfaction with government policies.
He stated, “The distribution of money and Russian flags before the recent protest suggests that the aim was not solely about the government’s programs. There seems to be an orchestrated effort to incite anarchy and challenge the government’s authority.”
Sani emphasized the need to address such actions to prevent disorder and lawlessness.
