Dr. Baoku Olusola, the suspended chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Kogi State branch, along with three other executive members, has been formally removed from their positions.
The decision was announced in a report adopted at the 2024 NMA Kogi Annual General Meeting in Lokoja on Saturday.
The report, presented by Dr. Austin Ojotule, Chairman of the Kogi State NMA Disciplinary Committee, cites allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office against Olusola and the three other officials.
Ojotule detailed that the suspended chairman, treasurer, director of social welfare, and financial secretary failed to defend themselves against the accusations, an act viewed as a serious abuse of their positions and an implicit admission of guilt.
He further noted that Olusola’s failure to convene a State Executive Committee meeting in six months breached NMA bylaws.
The chairman also acted unilaterally by petitioning law enforcement and engaging a lawyer without the required approvals.
Additionally, Olusola ignored directives from the Abuja NMA National Executive Council to resolve the crisis.
Due to these issues and the frozen state account, the committee was unable to review financial dealings.
The report recommends the impeachment of Olusola and the three executives, effective from the date of their suspension, and the establishment of an audit committee to review the association’s finances, in accordance with Article 5 Section 4a (ii) of the NMA Constitution.
