Poland Denies Claims of Russian Flag Waving by Its Nationals During Kano Protest

Poland has refuted allegations that its citizens were involved in waving Russian flags during the #EndBadGovernance protests in Kano State.

Some protesters were seen with the Russian flag during the nationwide demonstrations, leading to the arrest of seven Polish nationals by the Department of State Services (DSS) in connection with the incident.

Peter Afunanya, DSS spokesperson, confirmed the arrests and indicated that the Polish nationals are under investigation.

However, Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Andrzej Szejna, clarified that the individuals in question, who are six students and their lecturer, were not carrying Russian flags but were instead taking photographs.

Szejna described the situation as a case of the group being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Jakub Wisniewski, Poland’s undersecretary of state at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has called on the Nigerian government to allow the students to return to Poland, where their families are waiting.

Alojzy Nowak, the rector of the university the students attend, also urged for their release, emphasizing that securing their return is a top priority.
