The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has addressed the viral video showing a woman destroying her husband’s passport at Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos.
Following the video’s widespread circulation on social media, the NIS announced that it has initiated a formal investigation.
The woman in the video has been identified as Mrs. Favour Igiebor, who was seen tearing a Nigerian Standard Passport.
Kenneth Udo, NIS Public Relations Officer, stated that the Comptroller General of NIS has instructed that Mrs. Igiebor be summoned for further questioning.
The investigation will determine if her actions breach Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), which outlines penalties under Section 10(h) of the same Act.
Udo emphasized that the NIS is committed to enforcing the Immigration Act to ensure national security and maintain the integrity of the nation’s official documents.
