Sunny Wokekoro, the Chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the Action People’s Party (APP), has addressed the speculation surrounding the potential defection of Governor Siminalayi Fubara to his party.
Wokekoro disclosed that although no direct outreach has been made to Governor Fubara, the APP is planning a robust campaign aimed at attracting key members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to their ranks.
The APP is focused on broadening its membership base in Rivers State by targeting individuals disillusioned with the current state of the PDP, both at the national and state levels.
The party’s strategy includes efforts to persuade prominent figures in the PDP, such as Governor Fubara, senators, members of the House of Representatives, and other significant political leaders, to consider joining the APP.
Wokekoro said that the party is still in the process of establishing its secretariat and organizing its operations before launching this membership drive.
Despite the recent explosion at the APP secretariat in Port Harcourt, which some have linked to rumors of Governor Fubara’s possible defection, Wokekoro said the part remains undeterred.
He revealed that the incident has inadvertently boosted the party’s visibility and has further galvanized their commitment to expanding their influence across the state.
He stated that the party is confident that their grassroots appeal will resonate with those dissatisfied with the current political landscape, potentially leading to significant shifts in political allegiance in Rivers State.
