Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has announced an exciting partnership with Google to train 10,000 youths in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), revolutionizing the state’s digital landscape.
This initiative aims to equip young people with valuable digital skills, enabling them to thrive in the digital economy and opening doors to endless opportunities.
Governor Alia urged youths involved in criminal activities to embrace peace and choose the right paths, emphasizing the importance of ICT training in redirecting their lives.
“I urge the youths who are involved in all kinds of criminality in the State to lay down their arms, embrace peace, and choose the right paths. Drug abuse, cultism, internet fraud, popularly known as ‘Yahoo-Yahoo,’ and other social vices are a cankerworm I would never allow them to indulge in,” The Governor said.
In addition to ICT training, Governor Alia announced other initiatives, including the UN Volunteer Scheme and a fashion hub, to further support youth development in Benue State.
The administration’s collaboration with Google demonstrates its commitment to empowering youths, recognizing that their development is crucial for the state’s growth.
The initiative aligns with the National Digital Economic Policy and Strategy (NDEPS 2020-2030) and complements the Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC) Digital Job Creation for Youths (DJCY) program, which has already benefited over 2,000 youths nationwide.
