Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has declared his unwavering support for former President Goodluck Jonathan, should he decide to contest in the 2027 presidential election.
As the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Governor Mohammed said that he would back Jonathan with full commitment if he chooses to run for office again.
Governor Mohammed expressed his respect for Jonathan, noting that he would not pursue his own presidential ambitions if Jonathan decides to re-enter the political arena.
He urged those who are encouraging him to run for president to also consider persuading Jonathan to participate in the election.
He highlighted Jonathan’s leadership qualities, including his inclusive approach to governance and economic reforms during his tenure as president.
Mohammed is confident that Jonathan’s experience would enable him to perform better than the current administration if elected in 2027.
He specifically pointed out Jonathan’s efforts to address issues such as the Almajiri system and youth unemployment, which he believes were handled effectively during Jonathan’s presidency.
“He will do a better job because he has the experience. We know the prices of things. We know the level of inflation. During Jonathan’s regime, he was inclusive, addressing issues like the Almajiri system and creating initiatives for unemployed youths.
“His (Jonathan) leadership recruitment was exemplary. We need leaders like him—young people with energy, foresight, and drive”, he said.
