NAFDAC Warns Against Counterfeit , Substandard Products

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a strong caution to water producers, patent medicine vendors, and other manufacturers involved in regulated products against the distribution of counterfeit and substandard goods.

During a recent stakeholder meeting in Ibadan, Mrs. Roseline Ajayi, the NAFDAC Southwest Coordinator, highlighted troubling findings from recent inspections.

These included the sale of prohibited drugs and unregistered products by some patent medicine vendors and the non-compliance with proper packaging and storage protocols by certain manufacturers.

Ajayi pointed out that recent laboratory tests revealed that some bread sold in markets did not meet safety standards, as producers were using saccharine instead of sugar to cut costs.

Despite the economic pressures, she emphasized that NAFDAC remains committed to maintaining rigorous standards for product quality and consumer safety.

The meeting aimed to foster greater collaboration and support from stakeholders to help NAFDAC effectively protect public health.

Ajayi also noted that various regulatory measures have been implemented over the past year to improve practices within the sector and ensure the safety and quality of products available to the public.
