Operatives from the Nasarawa State Police Command have detained Hauwa Sani, a female suspect, for concealing 124 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition inside a gallon of palm oil.
Sani was arrested on Friday while traveling with a two-year-old child.
In a statement posted on X.com on Saturday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, detailed the arrest.
According to the statement, Sani was apprehended with N78,500 in cash and a Tecno mobile phone as she attempted to smuggle the ammunition to Katsina State, her reported destination.
The statement read, “On 23/8/2024 at about 1710hrs, based on credible information, Police operatives from Keffi Division intercepted Hauwa Sani and a two-year-old child from Doro village, Katsina State.
One hundred and twenty-four (124) rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition concealed in a gallon of palm oil, along with a Tecno mobile phone and Seventy-eight thousand and five hundred Naira (#78,500) in cash, were recovered from her.”
The preliminary investigation revealed that Sani had obtained the ammunition from Rafin Sanyi village in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and was transporting it to Katsina State when she was caught.
The Commissioner of Police, Shehu Nadada, has ordered the transfer of the suspect and evidence to the Force Intelligence Department at Force Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation.
