Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested Adejuwon Soyinka, the Regional Editor of The Conversation Africa, at Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. Soyinka was detained on Sunday, August 25, 2024, shortly after arriving from the United Kingdom on a Virgin Atlantic flight.
According to a message from a friend, no reason has been provided for Soyinka’s detention, and he has been held incommunicado. Attempts to contact him have been unsuccessful.
DSS spokesperson Peter Afunanya stated he was unaware of the arrest and had no comments. Further details on the case are awaited.
