Uzodinma Calls for Emulation of Okpara’s Leadership Model

At the Michael Okpara Leadership Prize awards in Abuja, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State lauded the late Michael Okpara, Premier of the defunct Eastern Nigeria, for his exceptional leadership in selfless service, agriculture, and industrialization. Uzodinma highlighted how Okpara’s leadership made the region the fastest-growing economy in Africa and urged contemporary leaders to adopt similar principles to ensure national prosperity.

Uzodinma spoke on the topic “Service Above Self: Lessons from the Leadership Philosophy of Dr. Michael Okpara,” emphasizing virtues such as selfless service, integrity, vision, and inclusivity that drove rapid regional growth. He challenged Nigerian leaders to prioritize service over personal gain and called for a collective commitment to the country’s development.

Uzodinma was honored with the Premier’s Grand Prize, Gold Plaque Category award. He praised the organizers for their efforts to preserve Okpara’s legacy, stating that Okpara’s contributions should inspire future generations.

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State also praised Okpara’s achievements and noted that many agricultural policies in Cross River are inspired by Okpara’s work. Former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim commended both the organizers and Uzodinma, urging Nigerians to embrace Okpara’s leadership lessons.
