Russia has issued a stark warning to the United States, stating that allowing Ukraine to carry out Western missile strikes on Russian territory could lead to a dangerous escalation of the conflict.
President Vladimir Putin emphasized that any attack would be met with an appropriate response from Russia. This warning comes as Ukraine continues to press Western allies to approve the use of long-range weapons for strikes deep inside Russian territory.
In an official statement, Russia cautioned the US and its Western partners that such actions could have serious and widespread consequences, potentially expanding the conflict beyond Europe’s borders.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused Western nations of deliberately escalating the war in Ukraine by considering Ukrainian requests to relax restrictions on the use of foreign-supplied weapons.
Lavrov criticized what he called “the American mentality,” suggesting that the US seeks to maintain its own safety while expecting others, including Ukrainians and Europeans, to bear the brunt of the conflict.
“We reaffirm that playing with fire — like children with matches — is a highly dangerous game, especially for those entrusted with nuclear weapons in Western countries,” Lavrov remarked.
Russia reiterated the importance of restraint and diplomatic negotiations to address the crisis, urging all involved parties to work towards a peaceful resolution.
