Heavy Rains Cause Floods in India, Claiming 15 Lives

Torrential rains in India have led to severe flooding, resulting in at least 15 deaths, local media reported on Wednesday.

Rivers in Gujarat, a coastal western state, have overflowed, prompting the evacuation of over 23,000 residents.

The Business Standard newspaper reported that the fatalities occurred across eight districts in the state since Monday.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel urged fishermen to avoid the rough seas, following warnings about hazardous conditions.

While monsoon rains traditionally cause significant damage each year, experts attribute the increasing frequency and severity of such events to climate change.

Last week, the northeastern state of Tripura experienced severe floods and landslides, resulting in more than 20 deaths.

In neighboring Bangladesh, heavy flooding has also claimed at least 40 lives, with nearly 300,000 people seeking refuge in emergency shelters.
